Aashak | آشک

Aashak are Afghan steamed dumplings filled with scallions and leeks, served with a halal minced meat topping. Afghan Hawasana finishes them with garlic yogurt sauce and dried mint.

Ingredients and preparation

Thin, hand-folded pastry holds finely chopped scallions, leeks (gandana) and Afghan spices. After steaming, the dumplings receive a tomato-based minced meat sauce and creamy garlic yogurt, also called chaka. Although the filling is vegetable-based, the complete dish includes meat in its topping.
